The Friedberger siblings

Besides the things that normally come up in this blog another thing I love to do is investigate and explore the world of music. I have a pretty eclectic taste and I don't really stick to one genre but one type of music the fascinates the heck out of me is experimental music. I wanted to dedicate a blog post to the work of two extremely talented musicians who deserve a lot more credit (in my opinion) than they ever receive: The Friedberger siblings: Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger. I've been listening to a lot of their stuff lately and I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about them on my blog. For those of you that don't know they are the brother and sister duo they are the masterminds behind the indie/experimental/pop/rock/ and sometimes a hint of electronica called The Fiery Furnaces. Eleanor sings, writes songs, and plays the guitar but without the experimental guitar and keyboard sounds that her brother is responsible for her musical style tends to be folk rock, and truly believe that that suits her voice perfectly and that tends to be her usual musical style. The most recent Fiery Furnaces album entitled I'm Going Away is more folk rocky and the experimental element takes much more of a backseat role than it did on the previous albums but it is defiantly still there. The Friedbergers blend genres on all there albums and that is what makes them such a unique and colorful musical duo. When I saw The Fiery Furnaces perform, for the first time ever back in 2005 at The Dog Days Of Summer I was hearing their music for the first time and I was blown away by the fact that I was seeing something that was so unique and such high quality that I was hooked and I soon got my hands on every single album they had ever made. The first one I heard was there album Bitter Tea which uses a combination of electronic keyboards, a church organ, and guitars to create songs that are refreshingly honest and surprisingly...easy to relate to.
Matthew Friedberger has had more than one solo album and recently I found some of his music online. In a recent interview in Now Magazine his sister Eleanor called him either a musical genius or a musical mad genius (I honestly can't remember which). His solo work is all electronic keyboards and his singing about the same things that I'm used to hearing in The Fiery Furnaces. I hear Matthew Friedberger moved to Paris, France. About a week ago Eleanor Friedberger released her first solo album, the first time I heard the first single off her solo album, my mistakes it felt so strange to hear her songs with a folk rock element without her brother's instrumentation being cleverly blended into the music. I heard a grand total of one of her songs off her solo album it's called "My Mistakes". It's the only one that was available online prior to the release of her album in various record stores. It's refreshing, honest, and all about regretting the stupid mistakes that she has already made. Because I am talking about music I think the best thing to do is add links related to the stuff I was talking about just because I have high respects for the Friedberger siblings and the music they create and would love to share it with all you readers out there:
